What is Rubber Made to Order?
Rubber made to order refers to custom-manufactured rubber products that are produced according to a client’s technical and performance specifications.
Instead of using standard, off-the-shelf rubber materials, made-to-order rubber is engineered to meet specific requirements such as dimensions, compound formulation, hardness, temperature resistance, chemical resistance, and application performance.
What Exactly Can Be Customized?
We manufacture rubber to your exact requirements. Below are the key variables that can be customized depending on your application, environment, and needs.
Rubber type
- Natural Rubber
- Synthetic Rubber
Compound
- Natural Rubber (NR): Derived from latex, known for high strength, fatigue resistance, and elasticity.
- Styrene Butadiene Rubber (SBR): A versatile, abrasion-resistant synthetic used for tires and conveyor belts.
- Nitrile Rubber (NBR): Highly resistant to oil, fuel, and chemicals, making it ideal for gaskets, O-rings, and oil seals.
- Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM): Excellent for outdoor applications due to superior resistance to ozone, weather, and UV rays.
- Neoprene (Polychloroprene - CR): Known for a good balance of properties, including resistance to ozone, oil, and heat.
- Silicone (Q): Offers exceptional thermal stability and, with Fluorosilicone (FVMQ), is used in extreme temperature applications.
Specialty Rubbers
- Viton (FKM/Fluorocarbon): Provides exceptional chemical and high-temperature resistance.
- Butyl Rubber (IIR): Extremely impermeable to gas, used for inner tubes and pharmaceutical stoppers.
Hardness
| Shore A Hardness | Material Example | Feel / Flexibility |
| 30A | Rubber Band | Very soft and flexible |
| 55A | Inner Tube | Medium soft |
| 60A - 70A | Car Tire Tread | Resilient and durable |
| 75A | Standard O-Ring | Ideal balance of shape & flex |
| 95A | Shoe Heel | Hard with minimal flexibility |
Size
This will be determined by your specifications, and we can have a mould manufactured to accommodate your specific requirements.
Tolerances
| Class (Molded) | Class (Extruded) | Description | Common Use |
| M1 / A1 | E1 | Precision | High-precision medical or aerospace parts |
| M2 / A2 | E2 | High Quality | Critical industrial seals and high-quality parts |
| M3 / A3 | E3 | Commercial | Standard commercial products (most common) |
| M4 / A4 | -- | Basic | Non-critical parts where precision is not vital |
Colour
The standard colour is black due to the carbon black used to reinforce the rubber, however we could possibly assist with different colours.
Silicone is easily coloured and available in different colours.
Surface finish
Moulded rubber surfaces as generally smooth and determined by the polish of the mould. Should a textured or matt finish be required, we can assist.
Resistances
A rubber resistance chart (or chemical compatibility chart) is used to determine how different elastomeric materials respond when exposed to specific chemicals, temperatures, and environments.
Using the wrong rubber can lead to rapid degradation, swelling, or loss of mechanical strength.
Based on your requirements and the enviroment where the moulded rubber parts will function, we can recommend the best suited compound to use.

Custom Rubber Made to Order FAQs
What is the minimum order quantity?
Minimum Order Quantities (MOQs) for manufacturing rubber products are primarily determined by the need to balance production costs, raw material availability, and machine efficiency. Because rubber manufacturing involves high fixed costs—such as mold creation, machine setup, and complex curing processes—manufacturers set up MOQs to ensure each production run is profitable and covers these initial investments.
How long does custom rubber manufacturing take?
Custom rubber manufacturing typically takes 4 to 6 weeks or more to go from initial design to final production, though this varies based on complexity and volume.
Design & Mould Fabrication: Generally 3 to 4 weeks, depending on design and complexity.
Production and Delivery: 2 to 3 weeks after mold approval for the first run. Once the mould is manufactured, all future orders have a 1-to-2-week lead time, with high volume items taking up to 3 weeks.
Can you match an existing rubber sample?
Yes, we can absolutely match, reverse-engineer, and manufacture rubber products from an existing sample. We use a combination of physical inspection and chemical analysis to determine the material composition, hardness, and dimensions of the sample to create a new, identical product.
Do you offer custom compounds?
Yes, we develop tailored material formulations for specific applications.
Do you ship nationwide / internationally?
Yes, Delta Rubber ships rubber products nationwide across South Africa, and we also supply and deliver internationally.
